Workforce planning involves strategies and practices that help organizations predict and manage talent supply and demand. Although simple in concept, strategic workforce planning has proven difficult in practice, especially in uncertain and changing business environments. Lack of information, unclear process ownership, and shifting business priorities are just some of the challenges. On the positive side, increased access to data and analytics allows for greater insight into employee movement and future forecasting, while new tools and software facilitate planning efforts. In this working group, we will look to discuss and share ideas and potential best practices on the following issues:
This Working Group will begin at 8:30am (continental breakfast at 8:00am) and run no later than 3:00pm with a working lunch.

- How do you address different types of SWP? What is the mix of strategic (long-term), operational (mid-term), and tactical (short-term) planning?
- What successes have you had in aligning business/talent demand forecasts with talent/labor supply? How do you resolve supply-demand gaps?
- How do you partner with the business to identify future demand for products/services to help you identify talent needs?
- Longer planning time horizons usually result in less accurate forecasts. How do you balance tradeoffs of accuracy and certainty in SWP?
- What processes/tools/systems have you found useful for SWP?
