Diversity and Inclusion has long been a focus in the workplace.  While gender and race have been and continue to be focal priorities, power and privilege are emerging as important topics of discussion given a more politically charged environment.  This is leading to new and evolving challenges for HR and line leaders in the workplace.

A few of the areas we may explore during this working group include:

  • Risks and rewards for taking a stand or choosing a side given the political environment
  • Challenges with Reverse Racism, #MeToo, Time's UP, LGBTQ Crimes, etc.
  • Differences between Diversity and Inclusion
  • Dealing with Diversity fatigue
  • Equipping managers to build and lead diverse teams

This session is geared for senior Diversity & Inclusion specialists or HR Business Partners who play a key role in the D&I space with their client groups.

In preparation for the meeting, please spend some time reflecting on your own personal experiences in the above areas. During the meeting, we will spend time talking about these issues as well as others that participants identify.   If there are other specific topics you would like to include to our meeting agenda, please send them to Beth Flynn-Ferry or Jo Hagin.  We look forward to seeing you in Seattle.

This working session will run from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM with a continental breakfast and a working lunch.  The session is free of charge to CAHRS partner firms, but participation is limited to no more than 25 attendees.

Cornell Discussion Leaders:
Lisa Nishii, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Cornell University, Associate Professor, Human Resource Studies and Chair of ILR International Programs at the ILR School, Cornell University
Beth Flynn-Ferry, Executive Director of Cornell's Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies (CAHRS) at the ILR School, Cornell University
