We know that culture is an important part of engaging employees in organizations and achieving business performance.  As companies look to create cultures that will lead to positive employee experiences, they are increasingly focusing attention on how best to hold employees, in particular leaders, accountable for behaviors that align with the culture and how to create systems and processes that monitor for the desired culture and employee experience.  This working group will explore how companies are using culture to drive accountability of behaviors and, in turn, create the desired employee experience.

Some of the topics that will be covered in this session are listed below, although the format of the session will flexible to allow participants to raise other issues of interest:

  • What culture are you trying to drive (growth, innovation, etc.)?  How does it align with your business strategy? How has your culture evolved in recent years, if at all?
  • How is your company organized and how does this structure reinforce and inhibit efforts to drive the desired culture?
  • What other barriers have you encountered to building the desired culture in your company? What actions have you taken to try to address these?
  • What listening channels do you have in place to monitor the desired culture and employee experience?  What channels/mechanisms do you have in place to allow for the escalation of behavior/conduct issues?
  • How do you ensure that how employees operate is just as important as what they achieve?
  • What specific practices or programs (e.g., rewards, coaching, training) do you have in place to create accountability among leaders for behavior that aligns with the culture?
  • What tools and analytics do you utilize to measure culture and the factors that influence it?
  • The target audience for this session is senior HR leaders (12+ years experience) who are responsible for driving culture (i.e. Chief Learning Officers, Heads of Organization Effectiveness or Organizational Development, Directors/VP level for HR Business Partners).

In preparation for the meeting, please spend some time reflecting on your own personal experiences in the above areas. During the meeting, well spend time talking about each of the areas as well as others that are identified through the course of our conversations together.

This working group will run from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM with continental breakfast at 8:30, session start at 9:00 am and a working lunch.  The session is free of charge to CAHRS partner firms, but participation is limited to no more than twenty-five attendees.
