The Impact of COVID-19 on Employee Health & Well-Being
Virtual Working Group
September 17 - 12:00-1:30pm EST

A note on virtual working groups:  Sessions will be 90 minutes in length and this working group will be limited to 12 participants, allowing only one company member per company for this working group. The limitation is to ensure that all participants have adequate time to share thoughts and ask questions.  The smaller number will simulate an actual working group and make it more conducive for participants to see and interact with one another.  In most cases, we will also do a CAHRScast on the same topic so all partners can benefit from the learning.)

As a result of COVID-19, employees are facing an array of new stressors related to not only concerns about the virus itself but also its broader implications, including increased isolation (from family, friends, and co-workers) and work-family conflict.  At the same time, access to potential outlets and resources for managing these stressors, such as family/friends, vacation/travel, and exercise, have been constrained.  The result is growing concern about the impact of COVID-19 on employee health and well-being.

In this working group Brad Bell, William J. Conaty Professor of Strategic Human Resources and Academic Director, CAHRS and Chris Collins, Associate Professor of Human Resource Studies and Director of Graduate Studies will examine how CAHRS companies are addressing these challenges and the steps they are taking to support employee health and well-being during the current crisis.  Some of the questions that will guide our discussion include:

•    What new risks or challenges does COVID-19 present to employee health and well-being?

•    How are companies leveraging and adapting current programs, practices, and benefits to support the current needs of employees? What new programs, practices, and benefits have been introduced?

•    How have communication and engagement practices evolved now that most employees are working remotely?

•    How are companies preparing managers to have conversations with employees about concerns related to COVID-19?

For security purposes, these Zoom working group sessions will be password protected and participation will be restricted to those participants who have been confirmed for a particular session.  Participation in these sessions is a great way to share and hear about key concerns, potential next steps and best practices, and to develop a network of HR leaders who are facing similar challenges for later one-on-one sharing and exchanges.
