Virtual Working Group

A note on virtual working groups:   Sessions will be 90 minutes in length and are limited to 15 participants per session, allowing only one company member per topic.  If we have two sessions on the same topic the same applies, allowing only one company member for both sessions.  The limitation is to ensure that all participants have adequate time to share thoughts and ask questions.  The smaller number will simulate an actual working group and make it more conducive for participants to see and interact with one another.  In most cases, we will also do a CAHRScast on the same topic so all partners can benefit from the learning.)

As summer internships wrap-up, companies are beginning to plan their strategy for college recruiting for Fall 2020.  Universities will have a variety of approaches for student presence on campus from not allowing students back, to having some or all students return, but no visitors to campus.  Traditional events such as career fairs or diversity conferences may be cancelled or move to virtual delivery.  Companies will need to rethink their approaches to attracting this valuable talent.

To help partner companies think through these challenges and to learn from one another, we will host several small, virtual CAHRS working group sessions on the topic of what companies learned from their virtual summer internships and how companies are adjusting their fall recruiting plans.  CAHRS Executive Director Beth Flynn-Ferry will facilitate this conversation between a small number of participants in each session on a range of questions including:

•    What did you learn from adjusting your summer internship program during the pandemic?
•    Are you planning to recruit in the fall?  If so, has the volume of anticipated hires changed?
•    What are the new challenges in your approach for Fall 2020?
•    How are you planning to modify your campus recruiting plans?
•    What is your plan for involvement in virtual events like career fairs, etc.?

For security purposes, these Zoom working group sessions will be password protected and participation will be restricted to those participants who have been confirmed for a particular session.  Participation in these sessions is a great way to share and hear about key concerns, potential next steps and best practices, and to develop a network of HR leaders who are facing similar challenges for later one-on-one sharing and exchanges.  Ideal candidates to participate in a session are HR leaders in your company who are responsible for college recruiting.
